QVSB Coach Pitch Baseball
Overview:
- In-house QVSB league for 7-8 year-old boys
- Typically one game and one practice per week
- 6-inning games with 5-run limit per inning
- All games and practices will be held at Sewickley area fields
- Typically 8-10 teams with 9-12 players per team
- Requires 3-4 volunteer coaches per team
Eligibility:
- Birthdates from 05/01/2003 through 04/30/2005
- Players born between 5/1/2005 and 4/30/2006 can request participation which may be allowed subject to having played at least one year of T-ball and approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment. Please note that depending upon the level of interest from this group; we may form a separate division for the 6 year-old Coach Pitch players.
Schedule:
- Practices begin mid March (weather dependent)
- Games from mid-April through mid-June
- One scheduled weekday practice per week, with additional practice time based upon field and coach scheduling.
- Typically one 90 minute game per week
Playing Time and Positions:
- Continuous batting order of all players in attendance
- 3 outs per inning, 5 runs max per team per inning
- 7 pitches per batter maximum to avoid long innings
- All players rotate each inning and get a chance to play all positions during the course of the season (as long as safety is not a concern, e.g. catching ball at 1st base)
- Everyone plays in the field each inning
Development Objectives:
- 100% instructional league
- Improve baseball basics including fielding, throwing, batting and base running
- Catcher introduced and rover eliminated to encourage more strategy and field awareness
- Encourage recognition and selection of pitches to hit; batters can strike out, but no walks
- Development Goal – Have FUN and develop fundamental baseball skills to set foundation for player-pitch within 1-2 years.
Equipment and Uniforms:
- Player provides baseball glove, pants, socks and cleats
- Players are given a team hat and jersey
- League provides all other needed equipment for each team
Awards and Recognition:
- No league playoffs or Champion. All players will receive a participation trophy at the end of the season.
- Coaches nominate top players from each team for participation on 8-year-old tournament team. These teams compete in local tournaments throughout late-June and July. Depending on coach and player interest, there may also be a 7-year-old tournament team selected.
- To be eligible for the post-season tournament team a player must have participated in their age-appropriate league and played in at least 60% of their team’s games during the season.
Concessions
Parents of all QVSB participants will be required to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.
