QVSB Minors Baseball (boys 9-10 years old)
Overview:
- Local travel league for boy’s league age 9-10 year-old with emphasis on both instruction and competition.
- Practices and games held throughout the week and weekend per team specific schedule.
- Home games played in Sewickley and away games at Avonworth and North Allegheny
- 6-inning games with 10 defensive players; required playing time for all players
- Typically 5-6 QVSB teams (12-14 total teams in league) with 11-12 players per team
- 3-4 volunteer coaches and scorekeeper per team
- Teams are formed via a pre-season skills assessment and QVSB league draft by head coaches
- Little League Rules enforced including pitch counts and corresponding days of rest for pitchers
- All scores are recorded and league standings/records are kept; all teams participate in Playoffs
Eligibility:
- Birthdates from 05/01/2001 through 04/30/2003
- Players born from 05/01/2003 to 04/30/2004 may request participation which may be allowed subject to approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment. Note impact on tournament team eligibility below for those “playing up”
Schedule:
- Skills assessment and teams formed in early March
- Practices begin mid-March, games begin mid-April and playoffs end in late June
- Practice slots are 1-2 hours and games usually last about 2 hours
Playing Time and Positions:
- Continuous batting order of all players in attendance
- Even playing time is targeted for all players
- Players given opportunity to experience all positions during the course of the season. Game participation in some skill positions may be limited by player’s ability and need for safety.
- 10 players in the field, players will rotate innings on bench; minimum 2 innings in the field
Development Objectives:
- Instructional and developmental league, introduction to kid pitching and expanding baseball skills and strategies
- Learn position-specific defensive responsibilities in field
- Learn base stealing fundamentals and proper sliding technique
- Begin development of specific skills for pitchers, catchers, infielders and outfielders
- Development Goal – Have FUN and introduce competitive baseball with kids pitching, full scoring, and league championships.
Equipment and Uniforms:
- Player provides baseball glove, pants, socks and cleats
- Players are given a team hat and jersey
- League provides all other needed equipment for each team
Awards and Recognition:
- League playoffs for all teams with trophies to Champion and Runner-up players
- Coaches nominate top players from each team for participation on 9-year-old or 10-year-old tournament teams. These teams compete in local tournaments throughout late-June and July.
- To be eligible for the post-season tournament team a player must have participated in their age-appropriate league and played in at least 60% of their team’s games during the season.
- 10-year-old tournament team may participate in Little League World Series tournament
Concessions
Parents of all QVSB participants will be required to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.
