QVSB Pony and Colt  League Baseball (boys 13-17 year olds)

Overview:

  • Local competitive travel league for boy’s league age 13-17 year-olds
  • Practices and games held both during the week and the weekend
  • Home games played at Esmark Field and away games at North Hills’ league fields
  • 7 inning games playing with 9 defensive players
  • Typically one or two QV teams in 13-17 team leagues with 11-15 players per team
  • Requires 3-4 volunteer coaches per team
  • Pony League Rules enforced
  • All scores are recorded and league standings/records are kept

Eligibility: 

  • Pony:  Birthdates from 05/01/1997 through 04/30/1999
  • Colt:  Birthdates from 05/01/1994 through 04/30/1997
  • Players born from 05/01/1999 to 04/30/2000 may request participation which may be allowed subject to approval of Coaches and Commissioner based upon skills assessment. Please note the impact on such player’s eligibility for 12U tournament team.

Schedule:

  • Practices begin mid-March for Pony and the season will run until middle of July
  • Colt League practices begin Mid May and the season will run through the end of July
  • Practices and games will be held throughout the week including weekends on a set schedule, weather dependant.
  • Practice slots are 1-2 hours and games usually last ~ 2 hours

Playing Time and Positions:

  • Nine (9) defensive players in the field; there is no minimum playing time requirement for players.  Players do not have a minimum number of innings or at-bats.
  • Playing time, especially skilled positions (shortstop, pitcher, etc.) based on individual player skill, merit, game situations, and taking player safety into consideration.

Development Objectives:

  • Focus on refining player’s existing skills and the development of advanced skills for all positions while maintaining safety and encouraging sportsmanship
  • Advanced skill development for fielding, throwing, batting and base running
  • Development Goal – Have FUN and advance baseball skills in a very competitive league where teams play to win

Equipment and Uniforms:

  • Player provides baseball glove, baseball pants, and cleats
  • League provides a team hat and jersey
  • League provides all other needed equipment

Awards and Recognition:

  • Top 6 to 8 teams participate in Playoffs
  • First and Second Place receive trophies
  • Players eligible for recommendation for additional Tournament team play in summer

Concessions:

Parents of all QVSB participants will be required to volunteer in the concession stand for at least one game during the season.
